- ACM Digital Library (some full-text)
- Provides bibliographic information, abstracts, reviews and the full-text for articles published in ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) periodicals and proceedings since its founding in 1947
- IEEE Xplore (full-text)
- Provides access to IEEE transactions, journals, magazines and conference proceedings published since 1988 and all current IEEE Standards.
- INSPEC (some full-text)
- A major source of information for physics, electrical engineering, computer science and information science and technology. It indexes international journal articles, conference proceedings, reports, dissertations and books.
- Scopus
- TRD: Technology Research Database (not full-text)
- This database is comprised of the CSA Materials Research Database with METADEX, the CSA High Technology Research Database with Aerospace and the CSA Engineering Research Database. It indexes over 4000 periodicals, conference proceedings, technical reports, trade literature, patents, books and press releases.

FINDING BOOKS ONLINE AND IN THE LIBRARY
eBooks are electronic versions of print books. Through Ebrary our library offers access to thousands of titles online, right from your computer. One of the nice features of ebooks is that you can easily search for a specific keyword or phrase in the full-text of a title or in the entire collection.
- Over 4,000 computer science and engineering books are available online through Ebrary. You may search the full-text of Ebrary books by keyword, or you may search by author, title or subject by clicking on the advanced search tab. You may also browse the Technology category for relevant titles. In order to view the books, you will need to install the free Ebrary Reader on your computer.
You can search the Merlin catalog for a specific title, author or keyword. If you are not sure, however, where to start, it may be helpful to try a Library of Congress subject heading search. The picture below shows the results obtained from a subject search for "human computer interaction". From this results page, you could choose the link to see all 275 titles with the subject heading "human computer interaction " or you could browse the list to find a more relevant and specific subcategory.
Sometimes the easiest ways to find books of interest is to simply browse the shelves directly. Books on similar topics are generally grouped together in the same call number area.

ONLINE AND PRINT DICTIONARIES, ENCYCLOPEDIAS, AND HANDBOOKS
If you are looking for a specific definition or a general overview on a topic, a dictionary, handbook or encyclopedia is a good place to start. The following resources are just a small sampling of the print and online resources available at the Engineering Library. You can browse the collection offered online through Ebrary to find other titles similar to those listed below. The print reference collection is housed in the two low shelving units located in between the computers in the central area of the library.

- BABEL: A Glossary of Computer Oriented Abbreviations and Acronyms
- This list offers definitions for abbreviations and acronyms related to computers or the internet which have appeared in articles, help wanted ads or equipment sales. The glossary is compiled by Irving and Richard Kind and is updated three times each year in order to stay current.
- Dictionary of Algorithms and Data Structures
- Supported by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, this is a dictionary of algorithms, algorithmic techniques, data structures, archetypal problems, and related definitions. In addition to the main alphabetical listing of terms, index pages also break down entries by area and by type. Some entries have links to implementations and more information.

ONLINE REPOSITORIES AND BIBLIOGRAPHIES
A growing body of computer science literature is now freely available online through specialized repositories. These resources may include technical reports, self-archived copies of refereed journal articles or conference papers, articles published in open-access journals, or working papers that have not been published. The online repositories and bibliographies listed below offer a few useful tools for searching this online literature.
- TechXtra Search Engine
- This is an excellent place to start an online search. TechXtra simultaneously cross-searches 31 different collections relevant to engineering, mathematics and computing. These collections include two listed below, Arxiv and CiteSeer, as well as many others, such as NASA Technical Reports, Directory of Open Access Journals, and DSpace MIT.
- Please note that if you are doing more extensive research you may still need to search these collections individually to find the maximum number of relevant documents.

- Arxiv/Computing Research Repository
- The Computing Research Repository (CoRR) is the result of a collaboration between ACM, the Arxiv.org e-Print archive, NCSTRL and AAAI. You may search by keyword or browse by subject area from the homepage. Clicking on the Advanced Search link will bring you to the main Arxiv search page, where you may search by a specific author, title or subject class. Arxiv also has a full-text search feature.
- CiteSeer: Research Index
- CiteSeer is a scientific literature digital library and search engine that focuses primarily on the literature in computer and information science. It is hosted by the Pennsylvania State University's College of Information Sciences.
- Cogprints
- An electronic archive for self-archive papers in many areas of computer science (such as artificial intelligence, robotics, vision, learning, speech, neural networks) that are pertinent to the study of cognition.
- Computer Science Bibliography
- The DBLP server, supported by Universitat Trier, provides bibliographic information on more than 860,000 articles in major computer science journals and proceedings. Links to electronic versions are available for some articles.
- Electronic Colloquium on Computational Complexity
- ECCC's electronic colloquium collects professional information such as research reports, surveys, lecture notes and books related to computational complexity in one place, making it easily accessible electronically.
- The Virtual Technical Reports Center
- Compiled by the University of Maryland Libraries, the Virtual Technical Reports Center provides an alphabetical list of institutions which provide either full-text reports, or searchable extended abstracts of their technical reports on the World Wide Web.

- A well-organized, comprehensive site allowing users to view articles, download free programming files, source code, tools and more for a whole range of languages and technologies, including VB, C/C++/C#, .NET and Java. Includes numerous tutorials pitched at many different levels. Each resource listed includes a brief editorial description, and some are also rated by other users. You can also download the Programmer's Heaven C# School Book for free.

- developerWorks is IBM's technical resource for developers, providing a wide range of tools, code, and education on DB2®, eServer™, Lotus®, Rational®, Tivoli®, and WebSphere® as well as on open standards technology such as Web services, Wireless, Linux®, XML, Java™ technologies, and more. Navigate to technical content by choosing a product or technology from the menu on the left side of the page. Click on the "Technical Library" link within each topic to find articles, tutorials, standards and webcasts. Free registration with IBM is required to access some of the materials.
- World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)

- Datasheet Archive
- The Datasheet Archive allows users to search more than 5.2 million datasheets by part number or by searching part descriptions. The resulting datasheets are available to download as free PDF files.
- eeProduct Center
- eeProductCenter, created by the editors of EE Times and TechOnline, provides new product announcements and reviews of the latest integrated circuits and electronics components. The site also offers access to the SpecSearch Parametric Search engine, which features 20,000 digitized catalogs that represent over 2 million products and over 153 million searchable product specs. Free registration is required to use the SpecSearch feature.
- Global Electronic Components Datasheet Locator
- The Datasheet Locator is a free service which lists more than 994 component manufacturers. The manufacturers are listed in alphabetical order along the left side of the screen. After selecting a manufacturer, you will be given the choice to either enter a part number or to link to the company's primary data sheet source page.

- AI Topics
- Provided by the AAAI, AI Topics aims to provide a basic overview on numerous topics relating to artificial intelligence, such as machine learning, agents and interfaces. The information provided for each topic includes a general summary of the field as well as an annotated list of good places to begin further research, online readings and links to other related pages. The AI in the News section provides updates on the latest developments.
- Computer Architecture Tutorial
- This tutorial introduces undergraduate students to the computer architecture concepts of caches and pipelining. It contains examples, interactive applets and some problems with solutions to illustrate basic ideas.
- HCI Bibliography
- The HCI Bibliography is a free-access online bibliographic database on Human-Computer Interaction. As of December 2006, the HCI Bibliography includes over 36,000 publications. Resources listed include books, conference proceedings, journals and reports. The bibliography may be searched by keyword or you can browse more specific topical webliographies. Some entries include web links to full-text articles.
- Hobbes Internet Timeline
- A timeline highlighting some of the key events and technologies that helped shape the Internet as we know it today.
- NIST Computer Security Resource Center
- Provided by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, this site provides sharing of information security tools and practices, providing one-stop shopping for information security standards and guidelines, and identifying and linking key security web resources to support the industry. It includes a glossary of key information security terms, as well as a link to the National Vulnerability Database.
- An Overview of Cryptography
- Gary Kessler, a professor at Champlain College in Vermont, authored this excellent online introduction to the field. His paper covers the types of cryptographic algorithms, trust models and offers real examples of cryptography in use today. Kessler also maintains an extensive list of Information Security-Related URLs.
- Robot Information Central
- Created by Roger Arrick, founder of Arrick Robotics, Robot Information Central contains links to numerous robotics related web sites, including information on construction, parts and plans, robot competitions and contests, and robots used in various environments.
